I got here by way of people. I worked as a hospital chaplain. I spent a decade in ministry and outreach — including with unhoused neighbors — building the tools and systems that let staff and volunteers do their work well. And I've worked in behavioral health, with people in acute distress.

All of it comes down to the same thing: helping someone through something hard they can't yet see the shape of, without making them feel small.

Good software does that too. At Apple, I learned that a photo roll holds someone's memories, not data. Running technology for a multi-site organization, I learned what it costs a team when their tools fail at the moment they're needed most.

And I'm plain about what these don't do. They don't stand in for a conversation, a clinician, or a friend. They're built to support relationship, not replace it. The best outcome is that someone puts the tool down and goes and talks to a person.
